Barbara Anne Fillion began singing in her hometown church in Brookfield CT in 1985.Self taught on the guitar and having a flair for poetry, she began writing songs. One of her first compositons was putting the "Lord's Prayer" to music. Since then she has penned over 400 songs.
Around this time she had been asked to fill the need of leading Praise and Worship for the Danbury Chapter of Woman's Aglow International, a ministry to women. She held this position for 3 years.
Being prompted by a close friend to do something with her songs, she was introduced through a church connection to a local musician/producer. The meeting led to the making of her first album, "HIGHWAY HOME", featuring Christian tunes in the new country style, released in 1988. This experience opened the door for her to join the Christian band, "Messenger". For the next 4 years they ministered at Woman's Correctional facilities, nursing homes, Christian concerts, country fairs, church events, weddings, and ministry/fellowship banquets. During this time Barbara had the opportunity to be interviewed and share her testimony on Trinity Broadcasting Network live in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
For a short span after this, she performed traditional country with positive lyrics, patriotic and old time songs at country fairs and fundraisers throughout CT. She was in the lineup with Patty Loveless at the Durham Fair and opened for Clinton Gregory at the Lebanon Fairgrounds. She has met with country artist Mary Chapin-Carpenter backstage at the Ives Center in Danbury, CT and country legends Porter Wagner and Jeannie C. Rylie, while in Nashville. Though she says, meeting the southern Gospel quartet,The Easter Brothers, of all days on Easter morning, was by far the most memorable.
Her second solo album, High On That Mountain released on her independent record label, Dove Star records in November 2006, marks her musical transition into Country and Southern Gospel. The title cut, “High On That Mountain,” and other selections off the CD have received radio play in the U.S., Canada and in Europe. She appeared at JESUSFEST 2007 to debut songs off the album. Some of Nashville's finest musicians set their talents to this album, having played such venues as the Grand Ole' Opry, Dollywood, The Smoky Mountain Jubilee and have performed with Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Tom T. Hall, Merle Haggard, Kingdom Heirs, The Perry's and more. The CD contains original songs as well as her rendition of some favorite Christian-Gospel Songs.
Barbara Anne currently sings and shares testimony at woman's events, concerts, coffeehouses, nursing homes and church services. She resides with her husband Philippe of 35 years and they have 2 adopted children and 2 grandchildren.
